Today was day 2 of the CCA training camp here in Tucson, Arizona. From what some of the older riders were saying these camps were commonplace back in the 90's and this one is part of a resurgance of the National Team program as a whole. There are about 30 riders here, evebly split between road and mountain bikers, and guys and girls. Yesterday's ride we went about 14 miles up Mt. Lemmon as part of our endurance ride. As this camp is mostly about base miles and laying the foundation for the season we did another steaddy ride today, a bit longer one over Gate's Pass.
As well as riding we have a bunch of IST seesions, basically all the sport science and medicine in place for the athletes. We have sessions on recovery, sport psych, physio sessions, sleep and athletes and more. For me the physio session has been the best, the physio here is world-class (she worked with many of Canada's winter Olympians) and in just one session managed to straighten out my messed up body. Aside from all this the coolest part of the camp has been riding and interacting with a lot of the best cyclists in the country. There are a bunch of Olympians, World Cup winners and countless national championships included in this group and overall the professionalism and focus of everyone has been impressive. The rides are bang on and everything is just at a super high level.
