ZLM Tour & Fleche Wallone

Our sign for Fleche Wallone (stolen from the Dr's blog)

ZLM Tour-Drove to Holland the day before, stayed in a bit of a sketchy hotel behind a gas station and got honked at for riding on roads we weren' supposed to. I picked up a stomach bug or something of that nature and was not having a good time the morning of the race. Consequently i told the guys I would ride as hard as I could to help them. Lasted 140k before the lack of food caught up to me and I got spat out the back. The race was exceptionally fast, flat, with some good crosswind secions right along the ocean. The course went over a couple of 4k bridges out to an island off the coast and then back. A couple of days of recovery were needed after a tough week so on Monday four of us went into Leuven for the day. It really is a cool university town, we spent the afternoon walking around and then had dinner before taking the bus home.

Wednesday was even more exciting, the boys loaded up the van and drove to Huy to support the girls and pro guys in the Fleche Wallone classic. We found a prime spot at the steepest corner of the Mur de Huy and posted up with our sign and toques. It's a great race to watch, as the guys come through 3 times and the girls twice, a total of 5 chances to see the race. With two canadians in the pro race it was awesome to watch Ryder make the top ten and the girls tear it up. The climb really is unbelievably steep, so respect to everyone who made it up.

Yesterday was a cool day as well, after training in the morning Vincent told us he was going to have a chat with Christian Meier and Ryder Hesjedal, two canadians on the Protour team who raced the day before, and that we wwere free to come if we wanted. Myself and Tony made the trip and it turned out awesome. We talked with them for an hour and a half about everything cycling. Both are really cool guys and it was interesting to get the perspective of someone who is living our dream.

Another couple Kermesses this weekend, psyched to get racing again.
